We tested a number of materials and soon established that close fitting neoprene offered the best qualities for an active dog coat. Commonly used in wetsuits it provides great insulation even when wet. Neoprene’s flexibility, when combined with careful tailoring, also allows for unrestricted movement on land and water. The coat actually makes swimming less fatiguing by increasing buoyancy, reducing drag, and keeping the wearer warm.
Our innovative ‘Adjustable Back Panel’ facilitates up to 160mm of size adjustment, and can be tailored to the individual dog’s physique, be that a deep chest, or a narrow waist. If required, the underside of the coat has a marked area where the seam can be safely cut through, to accommodate male dogs - just one example of the attention to detail exhibited by our Cornish neoprene specialists.
Strong Pad, re-enforced neoprene, is used on the chest panel and back panel to help protect both the wearer and the coat from damage. The back panel is available plain or with reflective stripes.
As well as allowing the dog to remain comfortable at lower temperatures, the Active Dog Coat will keep mud and debris off their fur - and after use, just hose off, and air dry.

We use our highly abrasion-resistant StrongPad neoprene on the chest and back panels, with 3 mm neoprene elsewhere. This is a deliberate compromise. In testing, using StrongPad throughout the entire coat did not allow enough ‘give’ to achieve a close, secure fit — and correct fit is essential for the coat to perform its primary function of keeping the dog warm in cold, wet conditions.
Dogs working hard through dense, thorny cover place exceptional demands on any neoprene garment — particularly fast, low-driving dogs such as spaniels. While the coat will protect the dog, repeated contact with brambles, blackthorn and similar cover can cause the coat itself to sustain damage over time. In such use the Active Dog Coat should be regarded as protective equipment rather than armour, and wear and damage are to be expected.

The Active Dog Coat is made primarily from 3mm neoprene, the same material commonly used in wetsuits. Neoprene provides excellent insulation whilst remaining flexible, comfortable, and close fitting.
To improve durability in high-wear areas, we use our highly abrasion-resistant StrongPad® neoprene on the chest and back panels.
Neoprene provides an excellent balance of warmth, weather protection, comfort, and freedom of movement. It helps retain body heat, sheds water effectively, and remains flexible in all conditions.
It also provides a small amount of natural buoyancy, making it well suited to active dogs that spend time around water as well as in wet, windy, or changeable weather.
