Some say the kennel is your best training aid. If the puppy is kennelled when it starts its formal training, the session is the most interesting part of the day, so you have all of its attention - the student also has plenty of time to reflect afterwards.
In our house the dogs are part of the family and take part in most activities. The pup is exposed to many more situations, and is always being trained, not just in the short formal sessions. I haven't tried the kennelling method, but I have shown that the family pet can perform well in the field (And Field Trials). You just have to be consistent, as whether you like it or not, the puppy is being trained all the time.
